More About Me.
My name is Will Blyth. I have been working in the Hospitality industry for nearly 8 years. I have always loved working in bars. One of my first memories is standing behind the bar watching my grandmother pour a pint. My first job was at an upmarket bar/restaurant in Ponsonby where I was employed as a barback. For an entire year I wasn't allowed to make a single drink, just refilling the shelves and cleaning glasses, while shadowing the experienced bartenders and learning everything I could from them. Gradually I graduated from to being able to operate the espresso machine, to making a few basic drinks (pouring a glass of wine, vodka and lemonades etc), and then finally I was allowed to learn the secrets of their cocktail list. By the time I left that job I was running the bar by myself on Sunday day shifts (which are crazy hectic in Ponsonby). I enjoyed every minute of it, and was hooked on the Hospo Industry. I love to make cocktails using new and exciting recipes, but am also able to make all the great classics. I have a wide range of knowledge concerning different spirits and liqueurs, and have a firm grasp on the intricacies of wine. In my opinion there are too many young unexperienced barstaff which have their Manager's Certificate but don't know how to polish a wine glass, make a martini, or pour a proper pint of beer. I saw this weakness and decided to provide a service to help boost the overall skill of bar staff all over the city. I love my job and I like to let it show through my work.
